Spacer1Inch.jpgEDC 102 Issue: Diversity

I. Description of Problem or Issue

Describe your issue. Include definitions of key terms, why issue is important, what are current efforts and/or trends in schools related to your issue.

The issue we are going to discuss is diversity in our schools today. Because many students come from different backgrounds, schools have many aspects characterized by their backgrounds. Diversity is composed of different backgrounds including its culture, its society, its language, its history and so on. Understanding diversity is important for us to live together, however, it's not easy for students whose backgrounds are different from each other to get it. In order to help students to understand it, teachers should have the right knowledge about diversity, including some of the problems it causes in many ways. This research is going to help us with preparation for becoming a teacher in the future.

II. Research Summary

Include a paragraph that summarizes each team member's research on their particular research question.

Each of us researched our particular question by looking through the ERIC database, and finding journal articles online, with the help of the URI library database. We all broke down our questions into their main points, and researched information on the two. After finding a list of journal articles on each of our main topics, we narrowed it down by their relevance and quality. We mostly worked individually on our own research, and then added it all together once we each gathered enough to support our topics.

II. Group Product Overview

Describe what your team is planning to do in its presentation/class activities.

Each person is going to present its individual research using a power point. The research that we have done are about issues and concerns of racism, school segregation, No Child Left Behind and multicultural education. We had come up with these issues and concerns based on our topic; diversity. After each presentation, we are going to do jeopardy according to the presentation. 10 questions will be provided by each presentation.

III. Visual Representation

Insert a graphical representation of topics related to your issue here. This can be either a scan of a "Mind map" made in class or something more fancy. (You can create a nice mind map and embed it on this page at www.mind42.com.)

IV. Research Questions and Reference Summaries

List your research questions and who is researching this question in this table. When each team member begins their research, you should link each question to its corresponding research page. Each researcher should start this page using the template "EDC 102 Fnl Proj Student Research."
